Beams began in 1976 in a 231-square-foot store within a store in Harajuku, Tokyo, importing authentic preppy and Ivy League fashion and homeware from America into a space that resembled a UCLA dorm room. Since then, the brand has built its name reproducing and reworking heritage clothing from the golden age of varsity and preppy style: cardigans, military-style chinos, sweats, button-down shirts, and outerwear that's among the best you'll find. Meticulous detail and tightly controlled distribution outside Japan mean only a handful of stores worldwide carry it.
