Original Madras Trading Company
The Original Madras Trading Company is a third-generation family business, founded in 1973 by Ranjit Shah, who emigrated from Madras to New York City with a suitcase of fabric swatches.
OMTC quickly became a key supplier of authentic, hand-loomed Madras fabric and finished garments to American menswear icons like Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, and Gant, linking its New York creative hub directly to its bespoke factory and mill in Chennai.
The brand remains committed to traditional techniques, using single-weaver cloth — handwoven start to finish by one weaver. Its signature yellow selvage label nods to turmeric and the yellow taxis of both Chennai and New York.
